All 50 States Ranked by Racial Equality

Some states have come a long way while others seem to be stuck in the gritty past.

Due to the current environment, several sources have published studies that go over equality in America. Many say that inequality is rooted in the past, and this is true. Some states have recognized that and worked toward making progress in ridding themselves of the past's systemic hatred. Unfortunately, some states are a little behind the curve.

While some have made leaps and bounds, others are still stuck in the '40s. For this list, we ranked the states from best to worst based on WalletHub's "Best States for Racial Equality." We cross-referenced this with Zippia's study (which used information from the American Community Survey and the Sentencing Project Organization). On top of that, we also included a survey from U.S. News and data from the U.S. Census.

Stories are pulled from local testimonies and news reports.

Who would have guessed that out of all the states in America, Wyoming would be one of the best as far as racial equality goes? According to the American Community Survey, there isn't an income gap between white people and people of color.

It's the only state that can boast this stat.

The only caveat is that there aren't many people of color in the state. The U.S. Census found that 92.5% of the people who live there are white. The next highest percentage is Hispanic or Latino at 10.1%, while 2.7% of the population are Native Americans.
